Description
The Leaning Tower of Niles is a smaller-scale replica of the Leaning Tower of Piza located in the village of Niles, Illinois. The tower was originally built in 1934 by industrialist Robert Ilg as part of a recreation park for employees of the Ilg Hot Air Electric Ventilating Company. The company's facilities and the park are long gone, but the tower remains. It has become a symbol of Niles, and the iconic part of the village landscape. But outside Niles and surrounding areas, the tower isn't well-known. If people recognize it at all, it's because they saw it in i>Wayne's World</i> a montage of Chicagoland landmarks.
